Cooperation Network for Renewable Energy in Malawi (CONREMA) get valuable insights & save double time and money to find out what’s already there ... There are dozens of pilot projects, feasibility and research studies, and interested partners already engaged in or planning to integrate the promotion and implementation of renewable energy solutions in Malawi. Unfortunately, most of them are not known to the public or even to their potential partners, nor is an easy overview of already tested approaches and the respective learning experiences available. What, where, by whom, with which results and challenges to learn from - that’s what we would like to encourage organizations and researchers to shareon a common platform: for the sake of creating more sustainable and quicker actiontowards a halt of deforestation and land degradation in Malawi, towards better access to basic energy for more families, and last not least towards less waste of resources, easier up-scaling of successes, and better cooperation among development stakeholders (the need of which was broadly agreed on at the Malawian National Symposium on Climate Change & Environment in Lilongwe in autumn 2011).CONREMA will bring together project implementing organizations, contractor companies, funders and donors, beneficiary communities and CBOs, local and national government, acadameic and research institutes and para-statals like Malawi Energy Regulation Authority, Malawi Industry and Technologiy Research Council, National Commission for Science and Technology, Malawi Bureau of Standards etc. The cooperation network is meant to become a substantial tool for all interested and involved in development work and poverty reduction related to renewable energies in Malawi, be it - those in hands-on awareness-raising or training activities, or project management who want to learn from best practices instead of doubling efforts and funds just to find out the same things still don’t work 20 years after they have first been tried, - those who are conceptualizing and planning programs and projects related to renewable energies and want to avoid re-inventing the wheel but rather want to team up with or lget advice from experienced partners in the country- those who are planning or consulting government or institutional policies and strategies and need to get a detailed overview on existing efforts, chances, facilties and realities on the ground. The RENAMA team have tirelessly and voluntarily worked on gathering information on “who does what” over the last few years and has recommended to government stakeholders and major development partners the establishment of a database of renewable energy projects and stakeholderswhich will be accessible to registered CONREMA members, along with a capacity database for members who want to submit their profile, as well as case study documents. Let’s move forward to improved energy access in Malawi - together! Visit www.conrema.org
